Many children first learn the value of money by receiving an allowance, The purpose is to let children learn from experience at an age when financial mistakes are not very costly ,The amount of money that parents give to their children to spend as they wish differs ,from family to family.

At first, young children may spend all of their allowance in no time ,Lf they do this, they will learn the hard way that spending must be done within a budget ,which demands choices between spending and saving ,Older children may be responsible enough to save money for larger costs ,like clothing or electronics.

But it is not a good idea to pay your child for work around the home ,These jobs are a normal part of family life , Paying children to do extra work around the house , however, can be useful .It can even provide an understanding of how a business works.

Allowances give children a chance to experience the things they can do with money. They can share it in the form of gifts or giving to a good cause .They can spend it by buying things they want., Or they can save and maybe even invest it , Saving helps children understand that costly goals require sacrifice; you have to cut costs and plan for the future.

Many banks offer services to help children and teenagers ,lean about personal finance .A savings account is an excellent way to lean about the power of compound interest.

Compounding works by paying interest on interest .So, for example, one dollar invested at two percent interest for two years will earn two cents in the first year .The second year, the money will earn to percent of one dollar and two cents,, and so on ,That may not seem like a lot .But over time is adds ,up.

A. Donating their money to the poor. B. Buying a desirable new cell phone C. Setting costly goals for themselves D. Saving it in a personal bank account 70. Before l tell you bow many hours a day people spend ,watching content on tablets ,TVs,phones ,and

so forth, let’s talk quick about technology .The word ,l mean , according to my dictionary’s primary definition, means “the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes.”

These days, you say that word and I’d refer to most magic images of tablets ,smart phones, digital cameras ,satellites, cruise missiles ,electric cars or glasses-free 3D handhelds. That’s all correct ,of course—that stuff’s definitely technology ,I mean But so is a wheel, or a pencil ,or if we’re going all the way back, it’s any tool, including something as simple as a stick snatched up and applied to some purpose ,say ,knocking something down for dinner or turning over a rock to get whatever’s underneath.

The reason I raise the point is that the following poll(调查) implies that something different is happening when we pick up an electronic tablet instead of pencil and paper to compose an email, or an e-reader instead of a book to read something like the digital version of a magazine, or a novel by Stephen King Those who view changes as bad ,or at least a little bit terrifying , may look at the numbers below and read ominous (不详的)signs.

But okay, hold that thought ,and let’s jump to the poll results.

The poll was conducted by Poll Position to determine “how many hours a day do you spend looking at either a TV, computer screen ,e-reader, PDA or cell phone? ”The group asked that question of I,220 registered voters, by phone ,on November 19, 2011. Its generalized finding 60% of Americans spend between one and six hours a day viewing content on electronic devices.

A bout a third spend one to three hours , another third spend four to six ,and the remaining third spend between seven and more than 10 hours a day viewing content on electronic devices, Supposing most of us spend between 12 and 18hours per 24-hour day awake ,that’s a pretty high range of use, from one hour through 10 or more.

71.The purpose of the picture and the words below are to A. introduce a famous painting B. show the popularity of electronic devices C. recommend an exhibition on art D. raise the topic to be discussed 72. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph? A. There’s no hurry to announce the poll’s results

B. What “technology” means in the writer’s dictionary

C. The explanation to “technology ” is more important than the poll’s results D. Technology has nothing to do with the poll’s results.

73. According to the text, what is the author’s opinion about the word “technology”? A. It has changed the way of people’s everyday life.

B. It has brought great advantages and convenience to people. C. It has different meanings in different times.

D. It includes more meanings than usually regarded.

74. According to the poll, the time people spend viewing content on electronic devices a day differs from .

A. one to three hours B. four to six hours

C. one to more than ten hours D.seven to more than ten hours. 75. What is the topic of this text?

A. How many hours a day people spend watching content on electronic devices B. The bad effects on people’s health caused by using electronic devices too often. C. The proper time people take to use their electronic devices every day’ D. People waste too much time in watching content on electronic devices.

It’s 9 a.m, the morning rush hour in Toronto A man has fallen down on a downtown street suddenly . Several passersby stop to help the man . One woman reaches into her purse for her cell phone and hits 911, the emergency number, Three minutes later ,sirens (警报)are heard in the distance as a police cat ,an ambulance and a fire truck race to the area .Within ten minutes ,the stricken man is in the back of an ambulance and went to the hospital for life-saving treatment.

This scene is fairly common in Toronto and other major cities , Over the yeas ,cities have developed systems to respond quickly to emergencies It has resulted in many lives being saved .But none of this without the cooperation of car drivers who yield (让路) to emergency vehicles on busy downtown streets ,In fact ,it’s against the law for drivers not to yield.

To yield means to give away or ,more specifically, to get out of the way , It means pulling to the side of the road to let others pass ,As yet ,China does not have any specific laws that require drivers to yield, whether it is for slower cars to move over to the inside lane of a highway or for all cars to give way to emergency vehicles .Recently, an injured Beijing cyclist died on the way to hospital because the ambulance carrying him got stuck in city traffic .Drivers did not yield when they heard the ambulance carrying him got stuck in city traffic .Drivers did not yield when they heard the ambulance’s siren..

In Canada ,failing to yield to an emergency vehicle can result in a fine of $400-$2,000 and

reduction of three points off your license ,That’s for offence ,A second offence results in a bigger fine ,the loss of your driver’s license for two years and a possible jail sentence ,The punishment is severe because lives are in danger.

Safe driving depends on drivers being aware of the traffic around them and yielding when necessary ,And yielding to emergency vehicles only makes sense ,It waves lives and, who knows, someday it may save your own.
